12x12 | materials patterned paper (My Mind’s Eye) + alphabet stickers (Doodlebug) + ribbon (Making Memories) + star stickers (Making Memories) + brads (Bo Bunny) + tag punch (EK Success) + fonts (LD Heather, LD Buttercream)

A Note from Amy

To gather the ribbon, I opened up the brads, closed them around the ribbon, then pushed them through the background.

Journaling

Doesn’t matter when school gets out, it’s not really summer until the second Saturday in June. That’s when we go to my hometown to watch the Art City Days parade.
Sure—it’s a little bit cheesy. The dads all stand in the back, rolling their eyes & making disparaging comments. But it’s tradition. We sit in front of S.O.S. Drug, mostly because that’s where we always sit but mainly so we can send the kids for ice cream. The grown-ups sit on folding chairs and the kids sit on a blanket spread on the edge of the road. The teenagers sit on the curb, maintaining their blasé boredness. We admire the beauty queens and Grandma Sue cheers when the Provo High marching band—her alma mater—passes by. The kids chase after candy & beg for snow cones & wonder about the carnival afterward. The warm-at-last air fills with the drifting scent of cotton candy; first sunburns bloom on white necks. Summer arrives in the melody of drums & marching boots & candy spattering on blacktop, the ring of horses’ hooves & the swish of floats passing by.
