A Note from Emily
Using a black and white photo allows you a lot of room to play with color, or in my case, not. This layout was inspired by some wedding invitation artwork on the website www.friendsoftype.com (another plug for tumblr!). I thought it would be fun to go through the locations, dates, and happenings of the 18-year history of my husband and me. I wanted this layout to be very graphically based, with the pops of color not detracting from the text. Keeping the photo neutral as well allows it to stand out, but not be the main focus.
January Fun Fact
In January of 2007, I set a goal to learn the alto part of hymns at church. I’m still working on that same goal four years later. I teach piano and can sing notes when I’m trying to get my students to hit the right note on the piano, but I can’t hear the alto part when we’re singing in church. My daughter can sing any part out there, she is very kind to me as I’m gingerly singing off key, she’ll help me find my note, then move on to whatever part she feels like singing at the moment.
We try really hard not to giggle. We’re still working on that goal too.
