A Note From Melissa
I’ve had this photo of my mom’s side of the family (c. 1975--I’m the older of the two little girls pictured) hanging in our hall for several years now. Though it’s not “complete” due to the fact that five more children were born after it was taken, I especially love it because it includes my grandma, who died when I was ten.
I realized that though the photo is meaningful, it would be even more fun to see hanging on our wall if it told a story. I’ve always wanted to do a layout about the—ahem—interesting expressions used by my extended family. So I decided to remove the photo from its 5x7 frame and create a page that would fit into an 8x10 frame instead.
I’m looking forward to my family coming across it in the hall and getting a kick out of the recorded Smith-isms as they recall their context. And I’m so sure that I missed one or two really important ones that I left some space at the end to add them later.
