Welcome to the October edition of Scrapbook! Saturday. Today we have a sketch, a printable and some scrapbook-friendly craft inspiration to share with you. Let's get started!
SKETCH
Our sketch for this month uses multiple 3x4 photos:
You may download October's Sketch here. It is a fully layered digital template, too. Twice the uses for twice the fun. Bonus!!
Beginning with this sketch, I created a layout about our recent pear-picking adventures:
Celeste used the digital template, and switched out the 3x4s for 4x6s to create this layout:
This month our printable, made by the fabulous Beth Proudfoot, is the starting point of a fun and easy scrapbook page:
Quiz your children, or answer the questions for yourself, and make this page to document your Halloween. Can you believe it is just a little over a week away?
Visit the link to see a step-by-step picture tutorial. You can make them in a variety of colors and sizes and would be a wonderful handmade touch to any fall layout.
Thank you for stopping by! Need more inspiration? Follow us on Pinterest and see what's inspiring our team.
We hope you will create something using the sketch, the printable or the craft inspiration. If you do, we'd love to see what you come up with! Just post it to our Flickr gallery.
give.away.day. is so much fun, congrats to the Winner! I'm glad you're back today with me, Monika Wright, so that we can finish up our week long {my five senses} mini book project. Basically, you could say that your mini book is complete, but since we have some 6x6 papers and cardstock left from our goodies, I thought we could make an opening page as well as a closing page. Certainly not a must, but with the addition of these two pages, you'll add a polished look and feel to your project.
For my introduction page, I used the cardstock die cut embellishments that came with my mini book kit. I added the red and blue flower die cuts directly to my layout and added the rhinestone to dot the i. The green and blue scroll embellishment is actually adhered to the top of the page protector, which comes with the kit as well, with pop dots. I added a rhinestone to the center of this die cut as well.
The closing page has another die cut flower and more rhinestones as embellishments. I'll add some journaling to this page, following the hand-drawn line around the perimeter of the layout, and the {my five senses} mini book project will be complete.
For the crafters who prefer scrapbooking layouts over mini books, you can still document your five senses with fabulous results. Use the worksheet to gather your thoughts and just dive in, getting your memories down now and then create at your leisure.
Although I had scraps left from my mini book kit that I could have used, the Simply Perfect Page Kit from Momenta would be an excellent starting point. Add some cardstock to the mix and you have plenty of embellishments to complete at least 10 layouts.
I don't generally use kits, so it was a refreshing change to pull out the patterned papers and let myself be guided by the coordinating puffy stickers, die cut mat, frames & tags, bubbles & bling, alphabets, messages & icon paper stickers. I may just have to rethink my stand on kits.
I'll be sure to upload layouts to the Write.Click.Scrapbook. Flickr group and I hope that you'll share your projects from this week as well.
Thanks, as always, for hanging around with me this week and for your kind comments on the mini book project this week. If you have any questions at all, here's my contact info, I'd be happy to help.
Thank you for your comments. And congratulations to
Kate, we hope you enjoy your momenta kit. It will make it so fun to finish your album up just like Monika's!! Thank you, Momenta, for sponsoring our giveaway. We couldn't do them without our generous company sponsors.
Monika is back next to finish up her album. Thank you, dear Monika, for such a tremendous week!!
You've had the chance to see the fun, vibrant and colorful scrapbooking products from Momenta all week as we've been creating our mini book about {my five senses}.
Today's giveaway includes the Family Ties mini book kit, a set of Design Your Own stickers, a Brights pack of textured cardstock and the Family Ties Simply Perfect Page Kit.

If you would like to be considered for this perfect addition to your week with Monika, please leave us a comment telling us a trend that you have noticed, either in fashion, culture, or scrapbooking. Comments will remain open through this evening and one lucky number will be selected at random and posted tomorrow morning. Please remember it is your responsibility to check back and then claim your lucky number before the midnight bell tolls on Saturday!
Before we say goodbye, head over to the Momenta Facebook page to "like" them, making sure that you tell them Write. Click. Scrapbook. sent you. A winner will be chosen when they hit the 2,000th fan!
My senses have certainly been treated to a handful of glorious fall days here in East Tennessee, but colder weather is on its way. Brrrrr. I'm Monika Wright and I like turtlenecks and boots and polar fleece vests, so that's okay with me.
By now, I hope you've had time to make your lists, trim your papers, adhere them to your cardstock and printed your DYO Stickers and are ready to move on to your journaling. For the mini book {my five senses} I'm using the simple 5x5 square below that has a thin brown line printed onto a 6x6 piece of cardstock trimmed from a 12x12 sheet. The lighter gray line you see is your cut line.
So, let's go to our pages {you can find the sketches here} and see how they look with paper and photos and journaling. My first spread is for the sense of sight and it's rare that there's a photo of me, so I went the cheesy self-portrait-in-the-mirror route WITH my reading glasses propped on my head.
For the sense of smell, I took a photo of my cuppa joe in my Have Fun and Craft On mug...which helps with the mojo! If I had better photography skills, I would have been able to catch the steam rising from the mug, maybe next time.
What struck me first for the sense of hearing was the silence I hear all around me now that my kids are all in school and I'm home alone all day. I tried several different ideas, none conveying what I wanted to show. But, the sound of my husband playing his guitar while singing our favorite songs is definitely music to my ears.
The soft, squishy feeling of holding hands with my children or my husband is something I treasure. The touch of their hands in mine is something so powerful that I can't even put it into words.
To highlight the words of each of {my five senses}, I've punched a shape placed the sticker letters inside. I print my photos at home and crop my photos to the size I want before printing. If you're not able to do so, take your 4x6 photo and trim it to the 4x4 square that's called for in this page sketch. To show you, I printed my coffee mug photo as a 4x6 and trimmed to size to place on my mini book layout.
I have the day off tomorrow as Momenta hosts give.away.day. here at Write.Click.Scrapbook. We'll see each other again on Friday when we'll create our opening and closing layouts for our mini book and perhaps even get around to a layout about {my five senses} just in case you're not a mini book maker.
*a special thanks to Momenta for providing the products for this week's mini book project *
Welcome back to day two of our {my five senses} journey. If you've just stopped by, you can find your worksheet download to get started here. I'm Monika Wright and today, we're going to lay out our page design, choose our patterned papers and cardstock and print DYO Stickers in our color of choice.
Here are some of the goodies I'll be using for my mini book.
Here's the sketch I'm using for the right hand side pages.
And the left hand side pages sketch I'm using is this one.
I'll be finishing up the rest of my pages tonight, showing you the results tomorrow with papers trimmed and adhered to cardstock, stickers stuck and a journaling spot download, in case you'll be using it for the left side page just as I will be.
It's going to be a busy day tomorrow when you'll get to see how it all comes together...page layout, photos and journaling. I love it when a plan comes together!
* special thanks to Momenta for providing the products used for this week's mini book project *
Happy Fall! I'm Monika Wright, your host this week, and we're going to be taking a journey together which was inspired by my 5-year old Kindergartener. You see, they were studying the five senses a few weeks ago and as Victoria was sharing with us what the class had discussed, a light bulb went off in my head. Wouldn't it be neat to record what our very own five senses mean to us?
I'll be documenting {my five senses} this week in mini book format using this kit from Momenta as well as several other elements, including DYO stickers.
Don't know where to begin? Just print off this download and begin filling in what comes to mind, ideas for photographs and your impressions of how you view your five senses. If you're not a mini book fan, just use this as a starting point for your next page layout. You might even include the kids and the grandkids, asking them what their five senses mean to them. And guess what, you can even do this project in digital format, click here to see the two pages of free digital designs and templates Momenta has for you.
You can either save this image to your desktop to print, click here for the file, or find it in my blog sidebar. Below, you'll see a few ideas that I've written on my worksheet so far, just to get you started.
Tomorrow, we'll be working out our mini book design and getting started with pulling it all together. See you then!

Hi there! Welcome to Click. Saturday! I thought we´d go on with the topic of this week; design. Emily has done such a great job showing us the principles of design that I thought the photo challenges would go with that.
Now, design can, of course be of different characters: paper/fabric, architecture, design as in home decor.
Design Around Town
The first photo challenge is to go out in your neighbourhood or town and take photos of some typical architecture.
Don´t forget the detail shots!
Marnie accepted the challenge, took a few shots, and added them to a layout based upon a Becky Fleck sketch.
Home Design
Challenge number 2 is to look in your home/house where you can find design. Maybe it is special pieces of furniture or colors. Or perhaps your house has some funky features on the outside?!
And here are the photographs incorporated into a layout.
This is an older layout I did to highlight our home decor style.
Paige shares a page giving us a glimpse of her home. Such a beautiful page!
Such photos and layouts can also include our outdoor spaces. Alexandra created a darling layout about her new backyard makeover!
Fashion Design
The third photo challenge is to take a look in your wardrobe. Do you have a specific style of clothes?
These are the sorts of photos that, while we might not think them important, will be fun to look back on and remember. And I promise, it's more than just the clothes you will remember when you look back on a picture like this!!
And while you are in the mood and have a photo in hand, take a minute and scrap it. No time like the present!!
Marnie was excited to document her love of stripes. What a great season to shop for a stripe lover!
Here are the challenges again:
Go out in your neighbourhood, town, or city (wherever you may live!) and capture the specific design/styles of the buildings. Maybe there is some public art somewhere?
Once home, head inside and see if you can capture the style in the architecture of your house. Is there anything inside your home that shows a specific style?
Head into your closet. Look in your wardrobe; just take a photo of your clothes hanging for example. Do you have a style of clothes that you love? A favorite designer perhaps?
Please feel free to share your photos and layouts with us. We would love to see what you come up with!
Welcome back to my final day! Wasn't yesterday's giveaway the bomb? I love working with Debbie, she has totally changed the way I think about my scrapbooking. She knows how to get into your mind and make you reevaluate and assess your processes. It's pretty cool. If you didn't get a chance to check out the Masterful Scrapbooking Design site, please do so. Like the give.away.day. lady said, the webinars are my favorite part, listening to various designers discuss how they think is just fascinating!
So for today, there are some fields of design that make me very happy. And there are others. Not that I don't enjoy the others, but I only have so many hours in a day, and looking for inspiration from automobile design sites isn't top on my list of fun. What I'm hoping to get across is this: I know there are many many many fields of design, but today we're only looking at the things that make me giddy. All the different areas of design use the same elements, principles, and composition rules we've discussed this week, but in many different ways. I find it interesting to study them for my scrapbooking, I love the opening sequence for Casino Royale because of the motion graphics. I have used packaging from Target as inpsiration for my designing. I borrow heavily from album art, created by graphic designers. There are many children's literature illustrators that I regularly check out. Design is everywhere. I don't promise you'll learn a lot today, but I do promise you'll have fun. Lots of links and videos today, you might get sidetracked (many of the websites have links to other websites that have links to other websites), please come back when you remember you haven't read the whole post...
In no specific order, here are the fields of design I dig as well as some examples, links, websites, and/or articles:
There are probably a gazillion graphic design websites out there. I know it's not possible to cover near enough to do them justice, so if you'd like to share ones you love in the comments section, I'd like that very much. But I will share a couple of pictures and links that should keep you busy for a while. One thing I have done to get more inspiration is search for "design" on twitter and follow any results that look interesting.
That's how I found design.org, it's kind of like Pinterest for designers of all varieties.
Check out this article on DesignReviver about using social media for finding inspiration.
And the GraphicsDesignBlog is just one of many sites that has great articles. You can get lost for hours.
Same with DesignFix (which is not solely a graphics site, and I do know that graphic and web design are not the same...), lots of really fun articles that can take you from place to place to place.
Then there are the design blogs. Ah, designers who host a blogs dedicated solely to things that inspire them, and sometimes they'll give away wallpaper and things, which I very much appreciate. :) These are just a few:
I'm going to stop now. We have other things to do!
2. Motion Graphics
This film by Pleix is just delightful, I love the colors used.
Super cute video (are you seeing a trend here?) by FWY Studios for match.com
So as not to load you down with too many videos, this is another interesting one from of various videos put together by Digital Kitchen (they do the opener for House). They have a really cool one that I can't figure out how to post, but if you click on the Motionspire link below, look for Funny or Die. It's a very graphically inspired short that makes no sense, but is awesome to watch and gather ideas from.
And if you want to while away more hours than you do on Pintrest, go to Motionspire. Set aside a large block of time for this click. :) Don't say I didn't warn you.
3. Package Design
I think any one these posts I've done this week could easily become a post in itself, and any topic we're looking at today could fill a whole week as well, but this topic, I just love. Something about the how of the presentation makes me happy.
I love the swoop on this packaging, Target had a similar one on it's store brand. But the childhood confession is just clever. I like packaging that makes one smile.
If you enjoy typography, there are just as many gazillion sites, but one I enjoy is Friends of Type. You'll also enjoy going to Flickr and searching under "typography."
Find a rep firm and you've got hours of enjoyment ahead of you. Here are a couple: Illustration Web and Frank Sturges Rep.
Jessica Hische is a designer, letter, AND illustrator, but I'm putting under the latter here because love her illustrations. Check out her blog too, she has a fun, quirky sense of humor. It used to have a "teenage girl" mode where you could click and the background turned to a tiled sparkly wolf picture. I can't seem to find that on her blog right now, sad. I am always referring new Twitter users to her letter to her mom about Twitter. Her URL is funny too.
And I'll end with the fabulous Oliver Jeffers. His work is genius. You are not allowed to argue with me.
Thank you for joining me this week. I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing all my design finds with you. There are so many more, I encourage you to explore on your own. And if you find anything you want to share, post it to our Twitter page. I check that often. Have a great weekend and don't forget to come back on Saturday for our new Write.Click.Scrapbook. feature!
