Hello, everyone! Kelly here today, with a bit of summer inspiration (that's part of me, to the left, from a photo my daughter took on a hike last week). I trust your summer is now in full-swing. Between all the activities we have had going on, I somehow neglected to put any summer decor on my fireplace. As I was thinking of a bright way to create some summer in my house, I thought of what summer feels like to me: bright colors, sunny days, breezy nights. I wanted to bring a bit of the beach house into my house.
The problem: I am hopelessly land-locked. I live in a desert!
Taking a few cues from Nautical decor I found on Pinterest, I set about making a few things with which to decorate. I give you my new summer inspired display:
The whole Nautical theme started with a few banners that I saw on the internet, made using the Nautical alphabet to spell messages. My banner spells "SUMMER" using the flags (just search "nautical alphabet" and you will find a chart of all the letter flags). Since the designs are all fairly simple, the banner was easy to make with cardstock and other paper from my supplies. I love that it makes a statement, and has a hidden message!
I had fun thinking of ways to bring a bit of the ocean to my sunny spot of dry land. Sail on, everyone!
