Hi there! And welcome to day 3 of Digi Tips.
I use banners and flags in almost every single layout. So I thought today I would show you how I do it!
Using the Polygonal Lasso Tool to Make a Banner
I'll be using PSE 10 for this tutorial.
Using the shape tool, I’ve drawn out a rectangle. The first thing you’ll need to do is simplify the layer. Right click on the rectangle layer and choose “Simplify Layer”.
Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool from the tool palette. There are three different options for the lasso tool. You can scroll through the options using the hot key "L". Or you can right click on the little icon and choose the Polygonal Lasso from the drop down menu.
With the Polygonal Tool selected, click down on your page just lower than your rectangle – and kind of at a diagonal to the corner. You’ll be making a triangle shape. So next, you’re going to move your curser up at a diagonal and click down. Then move it down and diagonal – right across from where your first click was – and double click. This will complete the triangle and give you the marching ants.
At this point, all you have to do is hit the delete key and you've got yourself a banner that you can clip with paper. Command (or Control) D will get rid of the marching ants.
To give the banner a more hand-cut look, take another small triangle from each side of the banner using the same steps as above:
Hit delete. Hit Command (or Control) D to get rid of the marching ants.
And now you've got a "hand-cut" banner that you can clip with any paper.
