A Note from Aliza
In the days following hurricane Sandy, while we went a few days without some basic amenities, I was overwhelmed by feelings of gratitude for all that we usually have. I knew the experience would find its way into some layouts. So, you know, I made sure to photograph it.
Journaling
The day after Hurricane Sandy, we went for a walk to get some air, to break up the day, and to see the damage first hand. I think we were all feeling grateful, and a little tender knowing that there was serious stuff happening all around us. While we were always safe, we were surprised to find ourselves vulnerable. I think it shows in the way Max and Sam were being uncharacteristically affectionate with each other. It’s just not their usual MO. It only took a hurricane to bring it out in the open.
Just as we were all feeling extra love for each other, I was feeling the same towards this city that was a little broken. NYC always seemed invulnerable, too. And seeing her a little hurt, made me care a little more. So I love these pictures of Max and Sam, and I love that New York City is in the backdrop.
