A Note From Emily
I think it may be because I’ve been playing with the collagey look lately, but I’ve noticed a lot more ads and posters are going with the hand cut/homemade design. I love that the look is not perfect; you can make a mistake and just go with it. For this layout, I wanted to capture that imperfection, but stick with the advertisement feel: lots of white space and a center focus. I hand cut the title and outlined each letter then attached them to the top of the photo in a haphazard way. I framed the photo in red strips of paper that related to the topic: the words “This Is Only A Test” and the letters E for my son’s name. Doing the journaling right on the photo kept my white space very clean and ad-like.
