A Note from Marnie

Home Sweet Home is clearly not an easy concept for me. Do you have this trouble, too? Or is it just me and my literal self?

Whenever someone asks me where I am from, I inevitably give them confused-face-and-big-pause.

Well, I was born and raised in Alberta, Canada, but I haven’t lived there since I was 17. But it is where I am from, no?

I lived in Utah for 15 years (and would love to return one day). It was the land of college, law school, first job, wedding, and first baby, so it feels at least as much as home as Coaldale. And 15 years sort of makes it from, don’t you think?

(Even though we lived in Wisconsin for 3 years, I’ve never ever considered it a viable answer.)

For the past four years, we have lived in Ohio. We really like it here and have no immediate plans to leave. So do I now claim this as home? I wonder if we stay here for 11 more years, if I will want to claim it like I do Utah. Hmm.

Maybe I should make it easy and move home to Alberta!!

July Fun Fact

July is parade month. My happiest July was going home for July 1st Canada day and making it back in time for July 4th celebrations. In Utah, there is another parade for Pioneer Day on July 24th, so if you were careful you could have three parades (and fireworks) in one month! WOOHOO!
