Creative Adventure: Part 4

Welcome back!  Today we will be doing part 4 of our Creative adventure.  Thanks for hanging in there with me on Wednesday.  What a nightmare!  But at least it worked out eventually.  Today we're going to be putting more of the project together, so without further ado, here is your video for part 4: 

 

Have you solved the mystery yet?  By now you've probably got an idea of what this project is going to be, but don't be so sure...you may yet be surprised by the ending. If you think you know, don't spoil it for the rest of us. =)

Here are the non-video option instructions for today:

1. Add a monogram alpha (one for each letter of the alphabet) to each page of the album.  Make sure the "A" is on the back of the front cover, and the "Z" is on the front of the back cover.  Add monograms to the inside pages in alphabetical order.  Make sure the patterned papers and monograms are facing the center and in the correct order.  The book will be bound on the paper/monogram side of each page.

2. Add your journaling tags, labels, or strips to the inside pages.  Since you can use 4x4 or 4x5 photos, there are a few ways you can do this: a) trim the labels/tags down to 1 inch strips and layer them across the top inch of the blank area (for 4x4 photos) as shown in photo "a" below; b) wait until after you add 4x5 photos and place labels/tags on top (see photo "b"); c) for journaling strips with 4x4 photos you can cover the area with a piece of patterned paper (4x1 inches), and then add the strips on top of the pp (see photo "c"); d) for strips with 4x5 photos add them on top of the photo (see photo "d").  **If you prefer to use 4x5 photos and/or typed journaling, you'll need to wait to do this step until tomorrow when we discuss photos and what we'll be journaling about.

 

 3. Bind the project together using a bind-it-all, or a hole punch/crop-a-dile and large jump rings as shown in the photo below.  (I used my Making Memories tool kit hole punch + craft hammer to make my holes.)

Creative Adventure: Part 3

**Thanks for waiting for the next mystery installment.  As Elizabeth noted, if we pretend this is Nancy Drew, the villain virus has been thwarted and we can now move on to our next clue.  Please excuse the poor quality and blunders in the video.  I had to record it quickly with my nikon point and shoot since I couldn't access my nice one on our sick PC.

Hello again! Aly Dosdall here with another day in our Creative Adventure. I'm so excited that you've joined me in this project! Thanks for your trust and for your participation. I hope you don't feel any pressure if you can't get to everything each day. What's so cool about this project is you can always come back to these posts when you have the time to complete the next part of the project. The magic of the internet allows us to do this at our own pace.  Remember that you can always add more to this project later on as time allows.  What more can you ask for??  Here is today's video:

**Note to digital scrappers: you can do this project too!  If you'd like to print out your digital part and use the 7x5 mounting board (or chipboard) you can.  Or you can create a 7x5 photo book on Shutterfly or a similar website. CLICK HERE to download a free layered template for this project. 

Here are instructions for today if you can't view the video:

1. For the front cover, adhere one 3x5 block of patterned paper along the left side of one of the cut blocks of mounting board/chipboard.  Adhere the 4x5 block next to that on the right side.  Cover the seam with your ribbon and add an embellishment along the ribbon.  Flip over the front cover (horizontally, not vertically) and adhere one 3x5 block of patterned paper against the right side of the mounting board.  Add the ribbon along the left edge of the patterned paper with an embellishment on top as in the photo below.

2. For the back cover, adhere the 7x5 block of patterned paper to another block of the cut mounting board.  Flip it over horizontally and adhere one 3x5 block of pp along the left side of the mounting board.  Add a strip of ribbon along the right edge of the pp with an embellishment over the top of the ribbon as in the photo below.

3. For the inside pages (there will be 12 of these) adhere one 3x5 block of patterned paper along the left edge of a cut block of mounting board.  Add a strip of ribbon along the right edge of the pp with an embellishment on top.  Flip the mounting board horizontally and add a 3x5 block of pp along the right edge of the mounting board.  Then add a strip of ribbon along the left edge of the pp with an embellishment on top as in the photo below.

Now get to work adding your papers, ribbons, and embellishments, and I'll be back on Friday with part 4.

Creative Adventure: Part 2

Hey there scrappy friends!  Aly Dosdall back again with part 2 of our Creative Adventure.  Did you gather your supplies?  Are you excited?  A little hesitant?  I don't blame you if you are, but I promise if you trust me and just go for it you'll love the end result of this project.  I'm going to add a tiny sneak peek of the finished project at the end of today's post, so hang in there with me. =)  Here's your video for today:

For those of you who can't view today's video, here's what you need to know:

1. Cut your ribbon into 5 inch long strips.  Twenty-seven of them to be exact.

2. Cut your patterned papers into one 7x5 inch block, one 4x5 block, and twenty-seven 3x5 blocks.

3. Cut each sheet of mounting board into eight 7x5 blocks using the template you see below (you need 14, you'll have 2 extras).  You can get it cut in the framing department of Michael's, Hobby Lobby or your local art store if you don't have a trimmer that can fit the 15x20 board.  Or, you can draw the template on your boards and use a magnetic trimmer, or do what I did and use your craft knife and a ruler to cut the board into smaller blocks, and then finish it with your trimmer.

4. You can also use fourteen 7x5 sheets of chipboard if you'd rather do that.  Just make sure whatever you use is archival quality (acid free, etc.)

  

 

Once you've cut your ribbon, patterned papers, and mounting board (or chipboard), you're ready for part 3 tomorrow. See you then!

 

Creative Adventure: Part 1

 

Hey scrappy friends, Aly Dosdall here and I’m so excited to be hosting Write. Click. Scrapbook. this week.  I’ve got something kind of different planned that I think you’re going to love.  I’m a big fan of adventures—books, movies, travel.  And I also love a good mystery—remember Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys?  Encyclopedia Brown?  Loved ‘em.  So…this week I’m going to take you on a creative adventure, and the mystery part is you’re not going to find out exactly what it is until we’re done!  Are you game??  Cool!!  Let’s get started.

 

Each day we’re going to work through a few steps of creating the project.  I will post a video explaining those steps and you can ask me any questions that you have, and I will do my best to answer them…except what the project is, of course.  LOL!  If for some reason you can’t view the videos, I will also post the steps after the video with some photos included.  By the end of the week you will have an adorable project that you and your loved ones will treasure, and you will have had a blast making it!  So, without further ado, here is your video for today :

 

 

 

Now, for those of you who can't view the video, here's what you need to know for today:

 

1. Hint about the project: I'm a big believer in scrapping your own story in addition to scrapping about all the other important people and things in your life.

 

2. Here are the supplies you need to gather to get going on this project:

• Two 15x20 sheets of mounting board available at art supply stores, Michael's, or Hobby Lobby.  (If you don't have a large enough trimmer you may want to ask someone in the custom framing department to cut it into at least fourteen 5x7 blocks.  Or you could just purchase 14 sheets of 5x7 chipboard.)
• 5 sheets of patterned paper that make you HAPPY!
• A monogram alpha about 2 inches wide (or you can die cut your own)
• Letter stickers
• 4.5 yards of ribbon
• journaling tags, strips, or labels
• embellishments such as buttons, brads, or flowers, no bigger than about 1 inch
• some way to bind this project (ie bind-it-all, hole punch and jump rings/ribbon)

 

So go ahead and start gathering your supplies and meet me back here tomorrow for part 2 of our creative adventure mystery project!
