LAYER and DISPLAY
Layer
Time to add the filler items. Look for empty spots of places that need a dash of color. Fill in with your embellishments.
Employ the same design principles we use in scrapbooking
- repitition
- visual triangle
- rule of thirds
- balance
Use the filler to add texture, color, heighth, and interest to your display.
Keep shifting items until you are pleased with the display.
Time to adhere in place. I like to use hot glue since it is so strong and holds quickly.
Finish and Display
Now add the finishing touches, like a title or flower on the outside of the box.
Consider adding something on top or on the sides, spanning from one side to the next.
Maybe you need to add some sparkle or texture?
Once you have your finishing touches in place then you need to figure out where to display it.
Now my finished Christmas Traditions shadow box
the title, possibly my favorite part
look at the cute paper pieced stockings
Now for the big reveal!!
Well it is done, and boy was that fun!
Wondering about the other shadow box?? what is inside it??
(trying to get better shots, my son's is frozen on low resolution)
It is an ABC Search display. Each cubby contains items that start with a letter. My kids have loved helping me collect little trinkets to go inside. This is going to be displayed on a set of bookcases I am currently refinishing. I love how it turned out and I think it will make a very interesting conversation piece. So how is your project coming along?
Now that you understand the process of assembling something like this you can more easily do it and why not, you are a memory keeper and quite possibly a collector of paper and other shiny bits.
Some Shares:
From WCS reader Lisa,
Inspired by all the printer trays she had seen online it was time to make one. She finished it in no time and added it to a larger wall display that illustrates her happy and bright outlook.
Remember the Pottery Barn cubby from yesterday?
This is an inexpensive version, read all about it here.

This display in an authentic printers tray is so captivating and full of tiny treasures.
Stampers be prepared to drool.
