Shhh....I have a secret. I'll give you a tiny glimpse, but that's it. Just a little tantalizing taste of what's to come.
What in the world am I talking about? Why, hidden journaling of course. If you're shy and don't want your innermost thoughts out on paper for the world to see, or you have too much to say and can't fit your journaling on a regular sized layout, then hidden journaling is a good topic to explore.
What I personally love about hidden journaling is that it makes the layout much more interactive. I like to think of future generations of little Starrs pulling up tabs and opening pockets and unwrapping twine to get to my words.
Stumped for an idea on how to hide some journaling? Check outthese ideas below. Pockets are a common way to go (easy peasy to create with a sewing machine, or some glue), but so are flaps that open, accordian tabs, and more. Let your imagination run wild!
In this beautiful layout, Diana Chen explores her decision to take a sabbatical from her job. The layout is part of her 2010 personal album.
Diana's journaling is hidden in a tab that pulls out from the center patterned paper block. I love that the hidden journaling doesn't take away from Diana's design at all, but adds another layer to an already visually powerful layout.
In this layout, I created a pocket out of pattered paper using my sewing machine. I included my journaling on a tag that pulls out of the pocket. In order to make the tag a seamless part of the design, I placed part of the title on the tag. I also used the same style label sticker on my tag that's on the left of my layout to unify the design.
I love how sewing adds so much dimension to layouts, in addition to being very helpful in the hidden journaling department! Also note that a little pen can do wonders in creating a fun border on your layout.
