Well hello there! :::waving::: It's been awhile so let's get the formalities over with right away. My name is Jody and I, maybe like some of you reading this, am a scrapaholic. I started scrapping only 4 years ago, but my obsession with it has not dwindled. Not even a teensy, weensy bit. I am a simple scrapper, just give me photos and some pretty paper and I am happy. So when I chose this day to blog, I knew I wanted to blog about something very near and dear to my heart. School and the end of it. You see with one tween and two teen girls, summer break is a very happy time here!
As my two younger girls got off the bus, I couldn't help but hear the 1970's Alice Cooper song School's Out play in my head. Back in the olden days when I grew up, on the last day of school, the bus ride home was absolute chaos. Everyone would sing that song and tear up all the papers that were left on their laps (back packs weren't invented yet . . . LOL) And then we would throw those said papers out the windows of the bus. Crazy, I know...
I buried myself in my scraproom and created 3 layouts that included all of my 3 daughters and school. Every single year since I have had a school-aged child, I have taken the prerequisite first day photo. But this year I did something different, I actually took a photo on the last day as well, to note the changes in my daughters over a 9 month period. And this is what I came up with:
I could not believe just how much my #3 daughter had grown! Same kids, same front porch, just a whole school year in between. I will be doing this every year now and if you haven't yet, now maybe I have planted a little seed, you won't be sorry you documented this! :)
Next up, is a page I created after taking a photo of my #2 daughter who had just graduated middle school. I loved the photo I took of her right after she got her diploma.(Knocking all those grandmas down to get a good seat was worth it! I kid, I kid!) But the best part was when I went to find a photo of her from her kindergarten graduation, I was floored. She posed for me exactly the same 8 years earlier. A freaky coincidence, don't you think?
And lastly, my #1 daughter, just graduated from high school. :::sigh::: It literally was yesterday that I put her on the bus to go to kindergarten and now she is going off to college in less than 3 short months. She has had the same boyfriend throughout her years in the high school, so I had a lovely photo of the two of them that I wanted to scrap. They (unlike myself) took high school very seriously and I wanted to scrap that fact as well. I could not be prouder of these two.:
Not only did this young man get into Harvard, but both Yale and Harvard wanted him. Yes, just like they wanted me all those years ago, but I knew that I wanted to be a scrapbooking waitress and no Ivy League school was going to crush my dream of doing just that! ;)
It has been a pleasure being your host for today. I hope I have inspired you to get those school photos you may have laying around just waiting to be scrapped! I would love to see any pages you may have created, either post a link in the comments or better yet our WCS. Flickr site!
And now...sing along with me...
Well we got no choice
All the girls and boys
Makin all that noise
'Cause they found new toys
Well we can't salute ya
Can't find a flag
If that don't suit ya
That's a drag
School's out for summer
School's out forever
School's been blown to pieces
No more pencils
No more books
No more teacher's dirty looks
Well we got no class
And we got no principles
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes
School's out for summer
School's out forever
School's been blown to pieces
No more pencils
No more books
No more teacher's dirty looks
Out for summer
Out till fall
We might not go back at all
School's out forever
School's out for summer
School's out with fever
School's out completely
