a bitty bit of extra fun

This month we have an extra Saturday! We wanted this extra special Saturday to be extra special for all of you so I thought perhaps we could make a quick little mini together??

Next weekend is Easter. Our grandmas are very kind to us and I thought they could use a bit of love in return. I was browsing around looking for a fun and quick way to make a brag book. Something that could be made twice over quickly. (Thrice, actually, as I might want one for us, too!)

I put together a set of photo overlays. One for the title and 11 for photos. (I used the fonts of the talented Kimberly Geswein: the frames, the doodles, and the title.) Here is how they look together.

 

And this is how it looks once my photos were added underneath the overlays.

We have a bit of an irreverent sense of humor around here and hope that this will be taken with the goofy love that it is intended. Santa brought Richard some fake mustaches that we used for some silly photos. (Obviously, Rich's isn't actually using a fake one. heehee!) (Nigel's photos are missing as he wasn't in the mood the day we took the photos. I will need to try to get his this weekend, so we have time to print and ship.) 

Once I get Nigel's photos I will print them out on my awesome Epson and then pop them into a plastic brag book. Not only easy to finish but also easy to mail. A twofer!!

Gossamer Blue Mini Madness

Hi there, everyone! It's Kelly here, with my own take on Mini Madness. After a fabulous week of minis using the Gossamer Blue March Kit, I hope you are all inspired to scrap something wonderful this weekend! Make sure you come back tomorrow for give-away day, hint, hint.

Today, I have an album I put together using the fun stuff I got from Gossamer Blue. I haven't used many kits before, but after this, I am hooked. It was a great surprise to receive a box of supplies in the mail, and in my favorite bright-but-not-overpowering colors.

 

After looking at all the fun supplies, I chose to make a 5 x 7 album using all the bright cardstock in the kit. I simply folded my papers in half and then used my sewing machine to sew down the fold. I used a few of the leftovers to embellish the cover. As for the theme, I recently bought a small photo album at Target on clearance (I love Target clearance!) with the phrase on the cover, "I'm pretty sure you are one of my favorite people." Perfect title for an album filled with photos of people I'm pretty sure I love the most.

Here's the inside front cover, with a photo of me and my introduction to the album. I thought it was appropriate to explain what this album is all about.

One of the spreads from the album. I tried to group people together according to their relationship with me, so this spread features a photo of my brother with my oldest son, and my baby sister. I loved using the little alphabet stickers that came with the kit. They are perfect for titles in my album.

A page featuring my oldest sister, me, and my mom at her 60th birthday party. I loved the turquoise blue of the page, and the scalloped border was actually cut from the edge of another paper in the kit.

This is my favorite page of the album (this far - I still have a few pages to fill). It's a candid photo from my wedding day, and I don't really know who snapped it. Jared and I are laughing, and all the people who came to our wedding are doing different things, like looking at their watches, trying to quiet crying babies, or adjusting their ties. My little sister is cut out of the photo, and Jared's hand is blurry, like he's waving at the camera. But I love it, because a few of the people in it are gone now, and we've all gotten older, but this is a big group of people whom I count as favorites.

The best thing about this kit? I still have some things left to play with on a few other layouts! I loved the little enamel-looking sticker dots and the different papers. I don't especially care for heart patterns, but there was a fun paper that had hearts on it I used a few times in my album because they were delightfully 80's retro.

All Star Wrestling

Hi everyone! Diane here to share another mini album made with the Gossamer Blue kit. I was really excited when I opened the kit and saw all the bright and happy colors. We had just finished a great wrestling season and the color scheme and embellishments were perfect for documenting the season.

I decided to make a folding album using the white and green cardstock as the base along with a piece of charcoal grey from my stash. Once I had the base together I began adding patterned paper, photos and embellishments. I tied the finished album together with the twine that was included in the kit as part of the packaging.

The kit made it easy to put together and included cardstock, patterned paper, two letter stickers, stickers, die cuts and an assortment of embellishments. There were enough supplies in the kit to create this mini album plus enough leftovers to easily make 2-3 layouts and cards. The only things I added to the kit were a couple sheets of cardstock, the green star paper and a couple journaling cards that coordinated with the journaling card patterned paper included in the kit.I also used my Silhouette to cut various shapes and words.

I scrapbook with kits almost exclusively and love having that monthly package arrive at my door step. It has everything I need to scrap for the next month. The Gossamer Blue kit was full of some amazing new releases and fun to create with too.

Gossamer Blue Mini Album Day #2

Hi Everyone! Christine here to show you what I made with the awesome March main kit from Gossamer Blue! I was so excited when I found out that we were making mini albums with a kit. I’ve subscribed to scrapbooking kits in the past, but always felt bad when I couldn’t use up the whole kit every month. I knew that I would use most of the kit up making the mini album, and that gave me a great sense of accomplishment!

 

 

The best thing about using the Gossamer Blue kit to put together my mini album is that I didn’t have to spend a lot of time worrying about which products to use. All the papers and embellishments were coordinated and chosen already. That meant that I could go right into creating, which is such a HUGE time-saver!

I decided to make a bound-book with my Bind-It-All. I’ve had my Bind-It-All for a few months, but was too scared to use it yet. I was intimidated by it!

Thankfully, I found an awesome tutorial by my Write.Click.Scrapbook. teammate Francine Clouden. Francine de-mystified the Bind-It-All for me and I was able to successfully bind my mini album the first time I tried it! Thanks Francine!

I decided to make a mini album of my favorite things this year. “Things” is pretty loose, as it will include things like hanging out with friends. Instead of putting the title of my mini album on the outside cover, I decided to use the first page on the inside instead. That way the embellishments are protected inside the cover and won’t fall off.

 

I had some shipping tags on hand, so I included a few of them, bound into my album. I used it here for my title. I got to go to CHA in January, where I met many scrapbooking friends, including a couple of my WCS teammates Deb Duty and Jenny Larson!

I used my Silhouette digital cutter to cut “FRIENDS” out of my page before binding my book. I sewed a piece of paper on the other side to make a pocket. This way, the patterned paper shows up to fill the “FRIENDS” cut out!

 

This page documents how much I love my Raskog cart from IKEA. I use it to organize all my Project Life supplies.

 

One of my favorite things is my new iPhone, and the case I got for it that looks like a Polaroid Land camera!

 

Spending time with one of my best friends is my favorite. I used my Silhouette to cut out “ENJOY” before binding the book, similar to what I did with “FRIENDS” above.

 

The other side of the “ENJOY” cutout has a sewn pocket.

 

My brave husband and his sister completed the Tough Mudder race.

 

I have a few blank pages left, where I can add in more “favorite things” this year as they happen. I really love my bound mini-album, and I loved putting it together using the Gossamer Blue kit! It really made the project much easier and faster to tackle. And that, my friends, is a good thing! :)

Insta-year

 Hi everyone, I am so excited to share with you the mini album I created using the amazing Gossamer Blue March kit. Unfortunately, the main kit is sold out, but there are still a couple of add-on kits available. If you've never checked out their gorgeous kits, you should do that first. Then come back here and see what I created! :)

When I got the kit, I opened it up and spread it out to plan. Everything I needed for my album was there, I just added some Chic Tags for the months, some of Laina Lamb's awesome stamps, some mist and Cameo diecuts. Using a kit to create a mini is so easy because everything is already coordinated for you, so there's no guess-work. Gossamer Blue even includes the chipboard and some rings, so making my mini was a piece of cake.

I knew I wanted to make an album to show off all of the instagram photos I've taken through the year. I decided to pick my top six pictures from each month, print them off in a 4x6 format, and build the album around that. I went with a 6x8 size album so I could have some room to embellish around each photo.

I have to say, I pretty much use kits to scrap with, and after using the Gossamer Blue kit, I am anxious to check out the next kit they offer.  It was full of such amazing stuff, and totally my style.

Sunday Photo + Words

scrapbook!

This is one my favorite times of year. Breaking out of the winter doldrums, and seeing the sunshine would be joy enough.  But it is also a time of peaceful interlude for school, sports, and family. A status quo month with few changes and few hiccups in the schedule. Which is a good equation for getting to scrapbook. And this month I have been so inspired by all the mini albums. I have lists of new journaling thoughts for layouts, and new colors schemes, and new design ideas. Looking through the minis also gave me some ideas for taking photo series. Oooh, I love percolating creativity!!

THE SKETCH

This month, Diane created a sketch

based upon Amy's beautiful layout from her blogging week last month.

And look what our amazing team did with it.

 

Celeste stuck true to the sketch cleverly making a digital title that mimics a cut file. Celeste always has such nifty ways to incorporate trends whilst sticking true to her style.

 

Lisa made a vertical rectangle layout substituting one of the photos for a journaling card. I like how she striped the washi tape and stamped over the edges of the tags.

 

Monika also put a lovely and spring-y layout together. She added a matte around the sketch, and dropped one of her photos down. A fun twist on the sketch for certain.

This month the color palette

is based upon Deb's mini album cover.

Doesn't it feel so current and trendy? I couldn't wait to use it on a layout! I have had these pictures waiting for something soft and light and black and this set of five colors was absolutely perfect!

I used the same kit that I used for my mini this past week. Being digital means I can use the color balance to match the colors on the palette. Teehee. So sneaky!

Did you notice that Deb and I used nearly the same arrow? Love that. Great minds, and all that... :)

 

TRENDING

This month I noticed many cut elements in our mini albums. There are lacy doilies, cut files, and laser cut wooden veneers. They remind me of acrylic chairs: add just what you need without adding visual clutter. I was excited to try my hand with some digitally created cut elements. (I know, I know, I could just use my Cricut, but I'm out of adhesive... :) ) I did the title and then decided it was the perfect thing.
