Scrapbook Saturday is here! Which means we are nearly two months through our summer schedule. Where does the time go?
Are you having a lovely summer? I hope you are. Our weather took a turn this week, becoming hot as lava with a side of loud thunderstorms. I love thunderstorms. Especially hot summer day storms. Love them. Do you?Or do they scare you? Have you another favorite thing about summer?
Speaking of favorite things, I hope that you are participating in our summer photo challenge series--taking favorite photos. It will be a fun surprise to put them all together!
Before the clouds gather in and the showers begin again, shall we look at our newest sketch, cut file, and color palette?
The Sketch AND The Cut File
Each month, Diane puts together a sketch for us, and Christine creates a cut file for us. This month, they put their skills together and came up with a wonderful collaboration! Here is the sketch that Diane made:
and here is Christine's cut file (notice how it looks a lot like the central star embellishment. Heehee!!)

Now, let's look at the layouts that our team put together to help inspire you even more!
First, Sue substituted a photo for a lovely selection of patterns and switched out the center stars for lovely layered flowers.
I love the look of the photo corners. So perfect for a traditional page.The epoxy dots and flower centers are fantastic adds to make Sue's layout just a tiny bit more fancy!
AmyK is up next with a layout that kept the stars and the cut file, but turned the photos to their sides.
How about the patterned paper that looks like mowed baseball field? And the red arrowheads that look like the stitching on a baseball? Mmm. I also freeze with papers like this, not knowing how much to show and how much to cover. Amy's layout is inspiring and educational.
Diane moved one photo up and one photo down, then sprinkled a little journaling here, and a little journaling there.
With its primary colors, stitched vellum clouds, and the perfect (not to mention darling) flair to further her story, this layout is as iconic as its symbols. Look at how those photos!
Francine used 4 wallet sized photos in lieu of the two three by fives, then shuffled the other elements around to accommodate the change.
Putting her journaling on horizontal conversation bubbles, Francine's story unfolds bit by bit. Can you see Francine peeking through the vellum on the title bubble? Heehee!
I made my layout digitally, so I added an inner shadow to simulate Christine's cut file, but otherwise left the sketch intact.
I was so excited to leave the stars in place as they coordinated with the stars on the flag so well. (My son took these pictures for my niece--didn't he do a good job?)
LisaO's layout is the most different from the sketch. I love that she used repeating text lines as her central embellishment.
Doesn't Lisa look happy?? I love that she is in the photos. Reminds me to do the same, soon. In the words of someone very wise, "Yes, yes please."
When I saw AmyC's layout for the first time, I swooned. The white stitching, stars, and paint dots on that deep dyed blue paper paired with the variegated rainbow misting on the cut file, and well... what more can I say? Oh, the sketch--oh, yeah... I love how you can still see the sketch, despite the changes.
Lastly, we have a layout from Stephanie. She used the cut file as a mask, painting around it, on top of the mist she first put down. The texture that it creates is lovely, just as the title states.
I am so happy to get to see that sweet baby face more and more around here!

This month our color palette
comes from Valerie's layout in our June gallery.
I couldn't resist all those blues and greens.
Sarah's daughter's photo is the prefect complement to the palette. Man, she is pretty. And the stripes of color in the cut out letters are lovely.
Sam put together a gorgeous layout.
Look at how she bled the watercolors down the page and puddling on the bottom. Did you see how carefully she painted across the top of the photo, too? The variations in the paint are so subtle and so gentle.
Celeste added a splash of yellow to the colors to make her layout.
I am amazed at how different the colors look with a cream background rather than the white. I do like how the thin stamp edge gives a softer look to all the colors. I will soon be making a sketch out of the horizontal high center on this layout. Celeste is so good with her balance.
Stephanie used an oversized (and unbelievably adorable) photo on her bluesy layout.
I am so happy that vellum is back in style as it makes such a lovely and helpful journaling overlay. When I saw this layout, I wondered to myself if this yummy little fellow had blue eyes. And when I read the journaling I got my answer! Oh, how this layout takes me back to years past. I must be getting old in my sentimental ways!
Lastly, mine. I picked each of the colors and found a paper to highlight it. And then added a water photo. Nothing else would have felt right with those colors!! Can you see the title? I promise it's there.
The crown jewel goes to Laura. She not only used the sketch, and the cut file, but also the color scheme.
What a fantastic accomplishment! Such tremendous inspiration. You know I'm going to have to do one now, too. I so love making layouts with parameters!
