Hi! It's Marnie and I am so excited to be here with you this week. This week we are going to look at starting points: the places where we begin our layouts. Lately it seems I often just grab a photo, put it on a white background, add a bit of patterned paper and font or two, and call it good. This week, with your help, I hope to change it up a bit. My goal is to help turn our processes upsidedown and sideways, so that we can continue to make great layouts.
START WITH COLOR
Today we are going to start with color. Not only our theme this month, it is one of my favorite things about scrapbooking. Color just makes me happy.
I wanted to find a starting palette, so I went to my favorite site, J. Crew, and looked through their look book. I love how they layer and stack and show their shirts, all in a row or a pile. I found this delicious photo and knew it was going to be the perfect place to start.
I seriously think there are at least 352 color schemes hiding in this one photo. Let's get started with the first one. I pulled out five colors that spoke to me.
Don't you think it looks a bit like a Deb Duty color scheme? :) If so, I must be on a good path.
Here is the layout I came up with.
Look Ma! the background isn't white! :) teehee. I was so appreciative of the color scheme for helping me try something new.
I picked five other colors and tried another. Look how bright (and different!) these are.
I wasn't nearly as brave with this one for the background, but I did have lots of fun with the colors.
Here are three more color schemes that I created from the color inspiration ad.
With all the shadows in the photo, there are so many shades to choose from for each of the main colors. I am sure there are many more colors waiting to inspire you!
I hope that this inspires you to make a layout starting with color, too!
See you tomorrow. Until then,
