I love printing big photos. I do this every few months with one shot, enlarging it really big. How do I decide which photos to print big (12x12 or 8x12)? Here's a recent one that I knew I wanted print big:
I didn't print it big because it's the best photo, technique wise; I chose it because of the arrangement of the subject in the frame (which I didn't think about while I took the photo). There is a ton of white space on which I can scrap, and the subject--my son breaking the board--is in the sweet spot of the photo (see this post on the rule of thirds to see what I mean).
That's a general reason why I print photos large: there is a lot of white space, and the subject is in the sweet spot. Here's the page I made with this photos:

And one more I printed large for another reason: the busy background sort of acted like patterned paper designed especially for the subject matter.
So I challenge you! The next time you are printing photos, look with an eye toward seeking out shots that may work well enlarged as the base of the page.
