A Note from Aliza
I was a bit pressed for time with this layout. To help move things along quickly, I picked out a few papers with muted colors, and just layered them with my photo right in the center. It’s one of my go to techniques.

In the autumn, I always see lots of lists online sharing what people love about fall. They never reflect me, so I decided to make my own list. I used an old photo of myself in the fall.

A Note from Dee
This layout showcases a list of what is quintessential fall to me: cinnamon, pumpkin, wind & rain, falling leafs, strolls in the woods! The picture is of course taken during fall: after cycling home from work in the rain; typical fall!

October Fun Fact
After enjoying a long and adventurous summer I’m definitely loving that fall is here: cozy nights at home, candles, a big mug filled with tea, chai or hot chocolate, a good book! Here’s to cocooning!

This was originally a group photo. I just wanted the girls so I cropped it tight and then added a couple of embellishments to cover up the last little hand.

Three years ago, we bought an awesome skeleton. This year, it is going to make its debut. Finally. The kids are so excited.

Scrapolympics Day 4

It's day 4 and we are so very excited for today's event. It's a big one and quite possibly our favorite. Right up there with swimming and gymnastics and our winter scrapolympic skeleton race. We have two teams that are ready and raring to take part in the relay.

The goal for this event is to take the "baton" from your teammate and use it to create your own layout. Then pass it forward and see where the third teammate takes it. For all our competitors today, there is little more exciting than being inspired by one of your favorite scrapbookers. Let's get started.

Team One consists of Amy, Lisa, and Aliza. Here is there awesome relay.

Here is what they each had to say about their layouts and their inspiration.

Amy began with a goal to incorporate the journaling right into the title. Or the title right into the journaling. For her, it all started with the pink card and then went from there! Amy's beautiful layout is proof that you can totally use pink on a boy's layout.

This layout then went to Lisa. She writes, "As you can see I scaled down from Amy's great page. Whenever I do scraplift and/or use another page as inspiration I make them into a page that is me. So I can be super inspired by a page that is super busy with sewing and a lot of embellishments, but that is perhaps not my style." Such a great reminder that we can look beyond the details (or in them) to find things we can use.

 

Lisa's layout then went to Aliza who made hers. She says, "I loved the simplicity of Lisa's page, but I had a large photo and a small story that I wanted to use at the time. So, I simply swapped the elements while keeping the basic design the same; My journaling is a small square, while my photo runs the length of the page. I tried to include some bits of stamping on the edge, as Lisa did, but I am a big scaredy-cat when it comes to stamping. So, I went with washi tape and stickers instead. Using those embellishments  also helped me spread my color scheme around the page."

What a successful swap of sides and elements. And what a terrific sets of layouts from Team One.

 

Next is Team Two, consisting of Jenny, Dee, and Marnie.

Jenny got the race started with a bright and cheery layout with lots of journaling strips and delightfully layered elements around her photo.

 

Dee took this layout and essentially turned it on its side. She mimicked the photo matting, and kept the strips for journaling. The difference in perspective makes it seem like a whole new "sketch."

Lastly, Marnie turned it again (not realizing that is where it began!) for the journaling, but maintained the horizontal photo. She also kept the journaling strips, and maintained Dee's 10 point journaling.

Team Two did a great as well. Much too close to call. We will determine it to be a tie, and we will cross the finish line holding hands like the marathoning German twin sisters. Oh, the Olympics warm our hearts. ♥

Scrapolympics Day 2

Welcome back for day 2 in our Olympic celebrations! The beaches here are spectacular, the weather divine, and our fellow athletes are keeping us up late with their tales of running with scissors, and trimmers that just don't cut straight. ;)

We hope you enjoyed day one and are so glad you are back from more. Today we have Synchronized Scrapbooking.

 

Synchronized Scrapbooking

Our second Scrapolympic comes from synchronized swimming.

 

Here is the official Olympic history statement.

An aquatic ballet, synchronised swimming has been delighting Olympic audiences with its grace and rhythm since Los Angeles 1984. It’s a women-only discipline with duet and team competitions.

For our Synchronized Scrapbooking event, we have chosen to compete in synchronized duets: reigning in the creativity of an entire team seemed like too much of a feat. Beyond Olympic sized proportions! Writeclickscrapbookland will be represented by two teams who will each take on a sketch and will do their best to stay true to the sketch so as to stay in sync with their partner.

 

SYNCHRONIZED DUETS = PICK A SKETCH, PARTNER UP & FOLLOW THE SKETCH CLOSELY

 

 

Our first team is Amy and Lisa. They worked from a sketch based upon a layout by Cari.

 

First, let's take a look at Amy's layout. She stayed true to the horizontal strips, the three photos, and the decorated top corner. She added a bit of artistic flair to the bottom with a journaling spot. The makes the judges very happy for they expect Amy's layouts to be filled with meaningful words that more than perfectly substitute for any piece of patterned paper.

 

Next, Lisa's layout. Another strong performance by Lisa! She also maintained the horizontal tranquility of the original and gets bonus points for the use of a circle in her upper right hand element. Her three photos are not only perfectly aligned but radiate with floral beauty so divine we can almost smell the lovely aroma.

In her post performance interview, Lisa noted that she hadn't much to say, but that she loved how this page turned out. Before leaving the arena she added, "Isn't it a great thing when something you've created comes out even better than you planned?!" Yes, indeed.

 

Let's take one last look at Team One and their medal worthy layouts.

Writeclickscrapbookland is off to a terrific start on day 2.

 

 

Next up is Team Two consisting of Dee and Marnie. They worked from a sketch based upon a layout by Aliza.

 

Let's first look at Dee's part in the duet. Dee used the sketch to document part of her recent vacation to Portugal. She loved this quiet and relaxed afternoon at the pool and had so many fun pictures that the sketch was perfect! Her journaling talks a little about the afternoon. It looks so lovely. (Do you think we should all tag along next year?) In evaluating her precision, Dee gets high marks for meeting each of the segments of the sketch. Her margins are unusually accurate for someone limited by paper trimmers. Hooray, Dee! Exceptional work!

During her post performance interview, Dee excited explained, "This layout was definitely fun and easy to make. I use sketches quite often to create my layouts, but usually I don’t follow them as closely as I did with this one. But since the assignment was to follow it as closely as possible, I did! ;-) I love how it turned out!" We love it, too, Dee. And you!

 

Lastly, Marnie's layout. She took the opportunity to document some dance photo day candids. Because the sketch was so neat and tidy, the layout didn't get as overwhelmed as it may have with five glittery colorful photos. We are impressed by her restraint, knowing she prefers the single layout photos, we wondered if she was going to switch up the photo block. No deductions will be taken as she stayed in sync with her partner's five photos. And she does receive a small bonus for getting her title to shine in a cohesive way.

We caught up with Marnie fleeing the arena (perhaps still embarrassed for having fallen asleep during yesterday's events...) when she quickly blurted out that she did have some trouble reigning in her urge to switch out a couple of the photos for patterned paper, but that she couldn't possibly stand another setback. We hear you, and are with you, Marnie. Everyone loves a good comeback.

Team Two finishes strong with excellent synchronicity. Here they are together in stunning beauty.

 

Phew! We survived day two without any falls or disqualifications. We hope the wind wasn't too strong for you and that your papers weren't blown from your table as much as the divers were from the boards yesterday! :)

A Note from Dee
This layout documents my day in the life from March 29th this year. Day In The Life by Ali Edwards is such an amazing project. It's so easy to go past those everyday details that seem meaningless. The thing is they are not meaningless. Especially not when you look back at them 5, 10, maybe 20 years later. It's so great to look back on what life looked like so many years ago, what your daily routine was, what you like to eat, what products you used. I'm definitely determined to take part in Week in the life next week!

This layout is another layout that touches on the story of my son graduating high school, and the impending change in our every day life. I feel like I have to get a lot of parenting in while I still can. At the same time, it also records my desire to slow down a bit.

April week 2 challenge: Friday Showtime

Hi all, Lisa here today! When Dee told us her topic for this week, I just had to make a page! I will have a sweet tooth forever! 

 

I decided to go with a photo of the spoon full of Nutella that is heaven :) The journaling does say that a spoon full of Nutella every day makes a girl happy, but it might go a few days between! I used my watercolors to make a simple background for this page. I love how happy this page looks!

This layout is based on my most recent Instagram photo. I love the photo and, though it took place in February, it allows me to record this past year’s Chanukah gift. It’s a subscription, so it’s like getting a gift each month of the year. I love the way this layout turned out, but all those letter stickers gave me a run for my money.

I have joined a dance performance workshop. I am so excited, and I have ordered a new pair of Jazz shoes. My current pair is from 1993.

Lately, I'm much more excited about my daughter's Instagram feed than I am about mine. I used 12 photos from her feed to create a collage of photos in the soon to be gone Picasa.

My daughter recently told us that she is "Emo" - and my husband and I both Googled what that was and took the "What Kind Of Emo Are You" and I got "Poser Emo" which means that I'm not actually Emo - but I am enjoying watching her transformations as she grows up.

The month march doesn’t really stand out to me.. it’s like I’m just waiting for the spring… I do like the early signs of spring arriving though… little flowers blooming… but then again some days there suddenly will be snow again

I've been wanting to make a black & white layout for a little while, and this picture, which I posted on Instagram this fall, seemed like the right one. I added some yellow pops because it felt just a little too stark without it. I used some really old stuff on this layout! My favorite Instagram posts are the ones with a strong image and succinct message, so I kept my journaling short.

Helen Oyeyemi has a new short story collection coming out this month, What is Not Yours is Not Yours. I'm excited!

I have made a love themed page but without the traditional elements of perhaps a significant other as the main focus. I find heart shapes out in nature all the time and wanted to make a page using some of the most recent ones. And the notion is that if we really want to and look closely, we can see love all around us.

My One Little Word last year was Play. I made a page about it for my album; these were leftover photos that I decided to use for the family album. I wanted to celebrate our love of playing together.

We love playing collaborative games like Pandemic or Forbidden Island where your goal is not to beat each other but to work together to defeat the game.

This layout was made from patterned paper scraps and border strips all within the pink color family. Making a monochromatic page consisting of paper strips is one of my favorite ways to use up my scraps.

February Fun Fact
After living in Florida since I was 18, this is the time of year when I get super jealous of anyone who lives where there is snow, so I try to remember that we are lucky to live near the beach.

I took this photo with my cell phone this fall...but I didn't want it to feel like an autumn layout. This color scheme felt like a good compromise.

A Note from Tracie
This layout is just a fun page expressing my love for my husband and daughter. I rarely do a layout without a story or any journaling but when I thought about what I would say, it was already said with the words on the stickers! I used a heart punch to add white hearts for a subtle background. To give the larger hearts dimension, I glued them together in stacks of five. All the paper and stickers came from one collection which made this layout super fun and easy to put together!

I collect vintage Valentine’s from the 1950’s and I love pink and red so Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. What’s not to love about a holiday that revolves around chocolate, love and beautiful greeting cards, right?

This layout has my heart! It’s been in my mind for months but I never got round to making it. Happy that this theme came along, because I immediately knew It was the perfect match!
And it came together so quickly! That’s what I love with having layouts in your mind, they come together so easily because everything is thought out already!

I’m not much of a Valentine's person, it’s too corny for my

I have been shying away from the camera lately, so I went with a picture of my eldest. And how much I love him and his sense of style. And I do love it. And him.
The design was based on an ad I saw on the screens at the airport whilst I waited for my flight yesterday. :) The little (not quite) octagons fade gently from right to left. I have a feeling I will try this again...

February Fun Fact
This year I already know what I am getting my sweet husband for Valentine's day. That's a first! He is terribly difficult to buy for!

When I thought about what trends I wanted to use on my layout this month, I came up with the watercolor trend. It has become huge this past year! So for my patterned paper I used a page from one of my coloring books. I then colored just a little to make it more interesting.

A Note from Aliza
Black and white and grey are my favorite colors. My photos almost always end up in the middle third of my pages, and my titles always rest on some element of the page. No whimsical titles for me! Add some small doses of patterned paper and embellishments, and that sums up all of my layouts. Those are my trends, and even if I wanted to, I am not sure that I could change them.

January Fun Fact
For the holidays, I received several gift cards to Amazon. I used them all on cleaning tools. Yes, I am that exciting of a person. (But really, you should see how my new broom and lint brush collect dog hair!)

A Note from Tracie
This layout started my December Daily 2014. It uses my favorite holiday product of all time - vintage die cuts from Pretty Little Studio! I just ordered 15 more similar to this. These die cuts make me feel nostalgic for my childhood and days of Christmas past. My favorite illustrations are from the 1940's to 1970's and PLS uses graphics from that era for their products. They just make me so happy!! I am starting my 2015 December Daily today and it will be chock full of these little goodies.

Christmas is my favorite! As soon as Christmas is over, I start looking forward to the next Christmas.

I scrapbooked our family’s favorite holiday decoration, recording one of our favorite holiday photos ever with this decoration, and used one of my favorite scrapbooking supplies—embellishments, particularly die cuts and stickers. I used no patterned paper on this page!

My thoughts about this layout
This layout came together pretty quickly. I knew I wanted to use the Christmas Wishes collection by Pinkfresh Studio wish has such a fun color palette… It’s not the traditional red and darkgreen.. It’s fresh and it’s fun! I paired it with some fun gold embellishments and letter stickers by Studio 
Calico. I love to do my journaling on vellum when I’m using patterned paper as a background to my layout. It doesn’t break the pattern yet it’s still visible.

December Fun Fact
I absolutely adore December! Lighting up candles in my home, spending evenings on the couch, watching movies and most of all Christmas time… We have a strong family tradition in which everyone prepares a course for Christmas dinner. No one knows what the others will be making, so it’s all a big surprise on Christmas day. It’s so much fun to see how much effort everyone puts into it. Love love love it!

This is one of my favorite holiday items: Christmas Eve pjs. Last year was our first year for non-traditional jammies and they were a hit. This year, though, we are segueing back to the more traditional. Shh! Don't tell!
