We did not travel much this summer, but this hike was quite glorious, and it was enough to make us feel like we were on vacation.

Journaling
Storm King Mountain. This was our second time hiking here, and first time with all 4 of us, completing a whole trail. There was climbing up and down rocks, amazing views, twisty trails in a tree covered forest, some exhaustion and crankiness, then an even better view from what we think was the top of the mountain, and then more climbing down rocks to get back down. Everyone (!) enjoyed the challenge. Sam brought his Go Pro and has been helping with some of the picture-taking responsibilities.

September Fun Fact
One son is leaving to study in Israel for the year, and one is beginning high school. How time flies.

A Note from Amy
After I wrote this journaling I thought "Could I sound any more whiny? Complaining about being in Paris?" but I stayed with it because it was my authentic response. On a design note, I love adding gold (or silver, or grey) lines to fussy cut flowers. It adds a little extra pop and helps it to feel like it's more mine.

This layout documents my day in the life from March 29th this year. Day In The Life by Ali Edwards is such an amazing project. It's so easy to go past those everyday details that seem meaningless. The thing is they are not meaningless. Especially not when you look back at them 5, 10, maybe 20 years later. It's so great to look back on what life looked like so many years ago, what your daily routine was, what you like to eat, what products you used. I'm definitely determined to take part in Week in the life next week!

This layout is based on my most recent Instagram photo. I love the photo and, though it took place in February, it allows me to record this past year’s Chanukah gift. It’s a subscription, so it’s like getting a gift each month of the year. I love the way this layout turned out, but all those letter stickers gave me a run for my money.

I have joined a dance performance workshop. I am so excited, and I have ordered a new pair of Jazz shoes. My current pair is from 1993.

Lately, I'm much more excited about my daughter's Instagram feed than I am about mine. I used 12 photos from her feed to create a collage of photos in the soon to be gone Picasa.

My daughter recently told us that she is "Emo" - and my husband and I both Googled what that was and took the "What Kind Of Emo Are You" and I got "Poser Emo" which means that I'm not actually Emo - but I am enjoying watching her transformations as she grows up.

I've been wanting to make a black & white layout for a little while, and this picture, which I posted on Instagram this fall, seemed like the right one. I added some yellow pops because it felt just a little too stark without it. I used some really old stuff on this layout! My favorite Instagram posts are the ones with a strong image and succinct message, so I kept my journaling short.

Helen Oyeyemi has a new short story collection coming out this month, What is Not Yours is Not Yours. I'm excited!

This layout was made from patterned paper scraps and border strips all within the pink color family. Making a monochromatic page consisting of paper strips is one of my favorite ways to use up my scraps.

February Fun Fact
After living in Florida since I was 18, this is the time of year when I get super jealous of anyone who lives where there is snow, so I try to remember that we are lucky to live near the beach.

This layout is just a fun page expressing my love for my husband and daughter. I rarely do a layout without a story or any journaling but when I thought about what I would say, it was already said with the words on the stickers! I used a heart punch to add white hearts for a subtle background. To give the larger hearts dimension, I glued them together in stacks of five. All the paper and stickers came from one collection which made this layout super fun and easy to put together!

February Fun Fact
I collect vintage Valentine’s from the 1950’s and I love pink and red so Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. What’s not to love about a holiday that revolves around chocolate, love and beautiful greeting cards, right?

I have been shying away from the camera lately, so I went with a picture of my eldest. And how much I love him and his sense of style. And I do love it. And him.
The design was based on an ad I saw on the screens at the airport whilst I waited for my flight yesterday. :) The little (not quite) octagons fade gently from right to left. I have a feeling I will try this again...

This year I already know what I am getting my sweet husband for Valentine's day. That's a first! He is terribly difficult to buy for!

Black and white and grey are my favorite colors. My photos almost always end up in the middle third of my pages, and my titles always rest on some element of the page. No whimsical titles for me! Add some small doses of patterned paper and embellishments, and that sums up all of my layouts. Those are my trends, and even if I wanted to, I am not sure that I could change them.

January Fun Fact
For the holidays, I received several gift cards to Amazon. I used them all on cleaning tools. Yes, I am that exciting of a person. (But really, you should see how my new broom and lint brush collect dog hair!)

This layout started my December Daily 2014. It uses my favorite holiday product of all time - vintage die cuts from Pretty Little Studio! I just ordered 15 more similar to this. These die cuts make me feel nostalgic for my childhood and days of Christmas past. My favorite illustrations are from the 1940's to 1970's and PLS uses graphics from that era for their products. They just make me so happy!! I am starting my 2015 December Daily today and it will be chock full of these little goodies.

Christmas is my favorite! As soon as Christmas is over, I start looking forward to the next Christmas.

I scrapbooked our family’s favorite holiday decoration, recording one of our favorite holiday photos ever with this decoration, and used one of my favorite scrapbooking supplies—embellishments, particularly die cuts and stickers. I used no patterned paper on this page!

My thoughts about this layout
This layout came together pretty quickly. I knew I wanted to use the Christmas Wishes collection by Pinkfresh Studio wish has such a fun color palette… It’s not the traditional red and darkgreen.. It’s fresh and it’s fun! I paired it with some fun gold embellishments and letter stickers by Studio 
Calico. I love to do my journaling on vellum when I’m using patterned paper as a background to my layout. It doesn’t break the pattern yet it’s still visible.

December Fun Fact
I absolutely adore December! Lighting up candles in my home, spending evenings on the couch, watching movies and most of all Christmas time… We have a strong family tradition in which everyone prepares a course for Christmas dinner. No one knows what the others will be making, so it’s all a big surprise on Christmas day. It’s so much fun to see how much effort everyone puts into it. Love love love it!

Traveling while keeping kosher and observing the Sabbath requires a little bit of extra planning. So, it was exciting and a little exotic for us to spend a Sabbath in a state park in North Carolina, rather than in a city with food and a synagogue close by. I had wanted to record this aspect of our summer road trip for a while (well, since the summer), but kept pushing it off. I love when the gallery theme pushes me to get stories told.

I used the floral because it seemed homey and the die cuts from October Afternoon just happened to have the very same blue. Score! This is kind of an "all about me" page even though it's about my Mom so I'll put it in my about me album.

November Fun Fact
I am my absolute happiest October through December. I love autumn and the holiday season and every day I wear a big grin for no reason at all other than the little happies in my life like pumpkins, candles burning, hot cider, colorful leaves whirling in the wind as I drive and the anticipation of Christmas. There are so many wonderful reasons to live!

I know this is probably strange, but I always have to remind myself to scrapbook the photos I take on my phone. There are so many good images that tell a certain type of story—everyday kinds of memories, little moments, unusual places—on my phone, but forget to use them! So this layout was a conscious effort to look through my phone for stories. I might never have documented these sweet (yet common) moments otherwise.

I love how this layout came together pretty quickly with all the little picture squares I printed with my Canon Selphy. I knew I wanted a bold black and white background but I also wanted to add a lot of color since the pictures contain a lot of color as well.. Most of the embellishments are stamped and I love the convenience of this, because you can stamp it just in the color you need.

November Fun Fact
Oh how I love fall! In this time of year I enjoy the fact that it gets dark pretty early and make our home all cozy by lighting the candles. In this time of year I especially love comfort foods such as risotto, chili and stews. And not to forget: lots of speculoos!!

On Friday's post, Amy was talking about forgetting to scrapbook the photos on her phone. I have the same trouble.But when it was time for food photos, that is the place to go. I actually didn't get these photos from my phone, though, but from my sons. He is an awesome chef and takes pictures of his masterpieces. Which was perfect for me. (Twice. The first time I got to eat it. The second I got to scrapbook it!)

Welcome, October!

October is here and we are back. Rested and happy. Thank you for your patience as we took a much needed holiday.

Tomorrow we will talk about the new changes, but for today, let's just mention two. The first is that our new gallery will now launch at noon on the first. We thought it kinder to those you live on the west coast. We were sad that you had to get up at 5:00 am to see the new layouts. :)

The second but of news is that we have a new teammate! Please give a warm welcome to Dee Rose! We are very excited to have her aboard and know that you are going to fall in love her just as we have. By way of introduction, she has this to tell:

I’m Dee and I live in Rotterdam, the second largest city of the Netherlands, together with my husband. I have a fulltime job, but when I’m not working I love to papercraft, make and/or eat good food and I have a serious case of wanderlust. I love to explore and find new fun places, things and people that inspire me. I’m obsessed with pictures, although I don’t consider myself a photographer by any means. I would love to be a good one, but I just haven’t invested the time to learn (yet). I may or may not some day.. But until that day the most important thing for me is to document.. So that’s what I’m doing: enjoying life and documenting it, one picture at a time.

This layout has been on my heart for a while because I really want to capture the authentic story of my life on the pages of my scrapbooks. This is a peek into my daily life and what's important to me. Writing the journaling helped me realize just how important it is that I go outside every day. I'm going to keep this page out for a while to help me remember to make it a priority.

In one week, my friend is coming to stay with me for ten days! We are scrappy friends who have only met online. We are going to scrapbook on the road using my new Instax printer and have lots of fun adventures. This is going to be a great October! I hope it is for you too!

This layout came together quite quickly. The easy thing with black&white pictures is that you can pair them with practically anything! I love how the leafs turned out. I sprayed them with Mr. Huey's mist in orange and yellow and then spritzed some gold shine on it by Heidi Swapp, which gives them a beautiful shimmer. It mimics the beautiful fall sunlight:-)

From our home we have a view over the city park... It's beautiful all year round, but I especially love the view in the fall when the leafs turn orange, yellow and red and the sun casts a beautiful gold-ish light over it:-)

This photo is one of my favorites from my last vacations. I don't have many photos with my husband apart from selfies I think that is the reason why I like this one so much. But even though I have already used almost all the photos of my trip this one was the only one unused. When I saw this pirates collection by Echo Park I felt this was the collection for this photo. I love when new supplies inspire me, it make me feel it was a well spent money =)

October is one of my favorites month of the year, is when it really starts to look like spring, sunny days and still not as hot as summer, if it weren't for my allergies Spring would be my favorite season but is most like "it's complicated" relation.

Instead of trying to find the perfect outdoor themed embellishments for this layout, I decided to use what was already out on my desk from the last layout; limiting my supplies helped me to speed up my process and complete this layout in 20 minutes.

Several years ago my son and I climbed Precipice Trail to the top of Champlain Mountain in Acadia National Park; when we got to the top we saw the warning that the trail was for experienced hikers only!

Last year, the Halloween decorations came out the day before Halloween. It was a rough month and my decorating duties slid down to the bottom of the list. My girls asked if this year, we could do better. And we have. The house is already filled with black cats, owls, and pumpkins. It feels good to be back to normal.

I do the same back to school pages every year—my choice, it makes it easier—so I thought I would celebrate some everyday learning instead, specifically how I’ve started using the internet and my boys to organize the house a bit more. I've been slacking on my scrapbooking lately with a trying life situation thrown my way. I decided to jump back in and do a page for my kids about our new chapter. I began with a template to make the page come together quickly, even though I modified it a bit and added my own touches. I love the huge painted alpha for the title and all the bright and colorful papers/elements for a positive spin on a tough event.

August Fun Fact
My kids and I are currently working through our giant summer bucket list with only 12/36 items left to go! The other day we made giant bubbles in our wading pool and used a hula hoop to put bubbles around each other - it was a blast!
